Chateau of Usse

History

The presence of a Lord of Usse, Gueldin I is acknowledged as from 1000. But the construction of today's chateau only began in the 15th century. Originally designed like a stronghlod, it became a "plaisance" chateau from the 16th century with terraces imagined by Vauban overlooking gardens designed by Le Nôtre. The site is private and has been the property of the family Blacas d’Aulps for several generations. But some parts are open to the public : the collegiate church, the cellars, the saddlery, the chateau circuit and the walls. In this last part, the owners have created a special scenography reminding scenes from the Sleeping Beauty.
