Saturday morning, 10.00 am. I get off the train that has taken me 100 miles from home, at Saumur station.

On the platform, my husband, children, bikes, trailers and luggage for a few days cycling along the Loire à Vélo.

An initiatory journey

We have ridden our bikes through our beloved Touraine for 3 days with your bikes, and our journey…almost initiatory, was a delight from the beginning to the end.

The early misty lights on the riverside, the carpet of spring pollen in the Veron underwood, the green and leafy vines of Montlouis, the outline of the castles of Villandry and Ussé, and the amazing arrival to Amboise, with its impressive castle overlooking the city.

We hummed all our “bike-friendly” songs, from “A bicyclette” by Yves Montand to Queen’s “Bicycle race”.

“I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike…”

Comfortably seated in their trailers, our children have experienced the Touraine way of life, wandering through the countryside and sleeping under the tent like true adventurers… At sunrise, we would resume the cycling…and off we went for our daily 50 kilometers. With a smile on our face, we hummed all our « bike-friendly » classics such as « A bicyclette » by Yves Montand our « Bicycle race » by Queen, while joyfully pedaling. Simple pleasures, yet so enjoyable!

The pleasure to take time. The pleasure to feel free. The pleasure to recharge the batteries. And the feeling to have gone on an adventure, though so accessible to anyone.

Next year, we definitely ride the Loire à Vélo again!
