In 2019, Amboise was the center of all the attentions! From all over the world, visitors have come to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Renaissance, and of its greatest ambassador: Leonardo da Vinci. But don’t think we’ll rest on our laurels! In 2020, the destination Amboise Loire Valley offers always more new activities. Let’s focus on 5 new activities in Amboise in 2020.
Immersion into Leonardo da Vinci’s work
Let’s start with the master himself. In 2020, the genius will again attract all gazes. In June, the Chateau Clos Luce will open a brand new museum within its park. Visitors will discover two major faces of his knowledge: painting and architecture. A virtual gallery will show his seventeen painted works. An opportunity to be part of the art, and unveil its secrets: sfumato, smiles and gazes… Another brand new exhibition will reveal the mysteries of architect Da Vinci, great designer of amazing projects. Basilica, stairs, fortress, water engineering… models and 3D animations will immerse you into Da Vinci’s unlimited creativity.

An open-air guinguette in Amboise
We expected it for last year…it will eventually open in 2020! The Amboise Guinguette should welcome its first guests in May 2020. Located at the end of the Place du Marché, by the river Amasse, it will be a place for fun and friendly atmospheres. Its name will be “Chez Oscar et Suzette” and it will offer salads, grilled meats, cheeses and beverages as well as special summer events. With its wooden architecture and dance floor, the guinguette will be the perfect place for your evenings on the riverside.

Tribute to the WW2 Amboise heroes
We will celebrate this year the 80th anniversary of one of the most intense battles of the early days of World War 2. On June 18th and 19th 1940, a few heroic French soldiers resisted to the progress of the German troops, preventing them from crossing the river Loire. Heavily bombed for several days, the city is badly hit, especially around the royal chateau. In May, June and September 2020, the Tourist Office invites you to relive this forgotten story. From the breathtaking report of the battle to the still visible scars, not to forget the German occupation, your guide will tell you the unbelievable story of our forgotten heroes.

A golf course 5 miles from Amboise
New owners have taken over and completely renovated the Amboise golf course. In a few weeks, amateurs just like beginners will again play on the greens of this golf course, located just a few minutes from the chateau, north of Cangey. Players will find a brand new 9-hole course, a new clubhouse and a qualified instructor. Next to this activity, 6 wooden cottages and a former wine hut will enable visitors to stay on site. They will then combine their sport passion with the discovery of your heritage and gastronomy.

The kingdom of candy!
Nicolas has put a lot of thought in his project. The third generation of a candy-makers family, he will open in spring a museum of candy, not far from the station. Guided by some sweet and caramelized flavors, visitors will discover some still active antique machinery. Sweets, nougats, lollipops, caramels… An explosion of colors, shapes and flavors await the candy lovers. A gift shop will give them the opportunity to treat themselves with some sweets…never forgetting the wise words of their dentist…
