A new exhibition centre

A few steps from the central square and the Royal Castle, the city of Amboise opened the exhibition centre Le Garage. Located in a former automobile garage, the exhibition hall covers over 340m² under a bright light roof. The organization of the hall, just like the materials used for its renovation, perfectly stick with its industrial history. Two to three exhibitions will take place every year, as well as encounters with the artists.

Young artist Maxime Thoreau started the round of exhibitions in this new venue. Sculptures of this young and skilled artist reminded the work of another famous Amboise artist. It is indeed in the framework of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death that the audience were invited to discover Thoreau’s work.

The work of Abdallah Benanteur

The second exhibition also reminds another great Amboise resident. Born in Algeria in 1931 but settled in France from 1953, Abdallah Benanteur transmits a work marked with great spirituality. Just like Emir Abd el Kader, held prisoner in Amboise in the mid-19th century, his mind is tinged with humanism. From some ghostly shapes to mysterious characters, the human still holds a very modest place within an environment ruled by nature. Benanteur’s exhibition awaits until January 5th 2020.

Alexandre Calder’s Crinkly

In the garden bordered by river Amasse, do not miss Alexander Calder’s amazing Crinkly. A sculpted work by the world-renowned artist proudly stands there with its beak facing the Royal Castle.

The exhibition center Le Garage welcomes visitors Wednesday through Friday from 2.30 to 6.30 pm. Weekends from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm.
